The owners of a 2007 Toyota RAV-4 contacted District of Columbia Metropolitan Police Department to report that their vehicle was stolen from the area of 4100 Georgia Avenue NW after the vehicle was left unattended with the keys in the ignition and the engine running in Washington, DC. The District of Columbia PD Radio dispatched an officer to investigate the incident. The officer quickly arrived on location, interviewed the complainant and surveyed the area for the Toyota. When the officer was unable to locate the Toyota a stolen vehicle report was prepared. The officer then arranged for the stolen vehicle information to be entered into the state and federal crime computers which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the Toyota.

A short while later, officers from the Prince George’s County Police Department in Maryland picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen Toyota with the LoJack Police Tracking Computers (PTC) that are installed in their patrol vehicles and helicopter. Following the directional and audible cues from the PTC, the officers tracked the Toyota to the 3700 block Branch Avenue SE in Temple Hills, Maryland. At this location, officers observed the stolen Toyota parked, unoccupied and undamaged. Officers recovered the Toyota and notified the owner.

The LoJack® System was installed in the 2007 Toyota RAV-4 in June 2007 at Toyota of Bowie in Maryland.
