The owners of a 2013 Subaru Crosstrek contacted the Columbus Police Department to report that their vehicle was stolen from their residence.

The Columbus PD verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the Subaru.

A short while later troopers from the Ohio State Highway Patrol picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen Subaru with the LoJack Police Tracking Computers (PTC) that are installed in patrol vehicles and aircraft. Following the directional and audible cues from the PTC, the troopers tracked the Subaru to a church parking lot in Columbus. It appeared that the suspects had left the Subaru there to “cool off.”

Because of the quick recovery the suspects did not have enough time to strip the Subaru or use it to commit additional crimes. The stolen Subaru was impounded and later returned to the owner. This matter is to be further investigated by the Ohio State Highway Patrol Vehicle Theft Unit (VTU).

The LoJack® System was installed in the Subaru Crosstrek in July 2016 at Hatfield Hyundai Isuzu Subaru in Columbus, Ohio.
