C:\Users\rorogers\Pictures\Oakland PD 15 Camaro SS.jpg The owner of a 2015 Chevrolet Camaro SS contacted the San Leandro Police Department to report that their vehicle had been stolen. The victim advised the Chevrolet was taken from in front of their residence in the 900 block of Dowling Avenue in the early morning hours. The San Leandro PD verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the Chevrolet Camaro.

A short time later, an officer from the Oakland Police Department picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen Chevrolet with the LoJack Police Tracking Computers (PTC) which are installed in patrol vehicles and aircraft. Following the directional and audible cues from the PTC, the stolen Camaro was tracked to a residential area at Maggiora Drive and Maggiora Court, where it was found unoccupied. The Chevrolet was recovered and the very grateful owner responded to the scene to take possession of his vehicle. The owner advised his 5 year son will be thrilled to have “Bumble Bee” back!

Chevrolet Camaro – Frequent Auto Theft Targets

These high performance, late model Camaro SS vehicles have become a frequent target of thieves in the San Francisco Bay Area and they are often recovered after having been stripped of their engine/transmission, wheels/tires and interiors. It is interesting to note that the manufacturer’s built-in vehicle tracking/monitoring system had been disabled by the thieves. Fortunately this Camaro was quickly located after the theft by means of the LoJack Stolen Vehicle Recovery System, before the thieves could return to move it and then strip it.

The LoJack® System was installed in the Chevrolet Camaro in April 2017 at FH Daily Chevrolet in San Leandro, California.
