The owners of a 2013 Honda Civic contacted the Mesa Police Department to report that their vehicle was stolen sometime overnight from the parking spot of their townhouse. The suspects had hit a pole next to where the Honda had been parked and ripped the front bumper off the car.

The Mesa PD verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the Honda.

Forty minutes later, officers from the Mesa PD picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen Honda with the LoJack Police Tracking Computers (PTC) that are installed in patrol vehicles and aircraft. Following the directional and audible cues from the PTC, the officers tracked the Honda to the area of University Drive and Extension Road.

Juvenile Suspect Arrested

The officers located the stolen Honda unoccupied in the parking lot of an apartment complex. The Mesa PD set up surveillance and watched the vehicle for several hours. Three suspects were later observed getting into the Honda and driving to a nearby convenience store. All three suspects were detained without incident. The juvenile suspect that was driving the stolen Honda was arrested and booked. The two juvenile passengers were released to their parents with charges pending the referral to the Maricopa County Juvenile Court. The Honda was recovered with the damage to the front end that occurred during the theft. The Honda was processed for evidence and returned to the owner.

The LoJack® System was installed in the Honda Civic in March 2016 at Tempe Honda in Arizona.
