LoJack System Helps Lehigh County Auto Theft Task Force Recover Stolen Bobcat Skid Steer

Recovered Skid Steer

 

The owner of a Bobcat skid steer arrived at a construction site to discover that his equipment had been stolen during the overnight hours. The Bobcat owner called 911 and the Willistown Township Police Department dispatched a uniformed officer to investigate the incident. The officer quickly arrived on location, interviewed the complainant and then conducted a search of the general area. When the officer was unable to locate the Bobcat a stolen vehicle report was prepared and arrangements were made to have the stolen equipment information entered into the state and federal crime computers, which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the Bobcat.

The members of Lehigh County Auto Theft Force monitor any and all stolen vehicle activity within the area of their jurisdiction. The members of the task force are assigned undercover police vehicles which are equipped with LoJack Police Tracking Computers (PTC). Following the directional and audible cues from the PTC, the auto theft investigators tracked the signal to the area of Fairview Rd in Schnecksville, Pennsylvania, where they observed a skid steer matching the description of the stolen Bobcat. The investigators conducted a cursory inspection of the equipment and discovered that all the manufacturer identification numbers had been removed. The task force members confiscated the skid steer for investigation due to the fact that when a police vehicle equipped with a PTC was placed next to the Bobcat, the LoJack display pointed directly at the Bobcat. These indicators convinced the highly trained auto theft investigators that this Bobcat was in fact the equipment reported stolen earlier in Willistown.

This incident remains under investigation by the members of the Lehigh County Auto Theft Task Force.

The LoJack® System was installed in the Bobcat skid steer in August 2011 via Commercial Sales in Lisbon, North Dakota.
