LoJack Early Warning Alerts Owner to Theft of Triumph Motorcycle — Recovered in Minutes

During the early morning hours of May 11, 2012 the owner of a 2007 Triumph “Daytona” motorcycle was notified by his LoJack “Early Warning” System that his motorcycle may have been compromised or moved. The owner quickly went outside, where the bike had been parked in the 5800 block of Dean Marin Drive and saw the suspect driving away on his bike. He immediately contacted the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department. After verifying the theft, Las Vegas Metropolitan Police entered the bike’s information into the state and federal crime computer database – an action that automatically activated the LoJack transponder concealed in the motorcycle, prompting the transponder to begin emitting a silent homing signal.
Eight minutes later, officers with the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department’s “Enterprise Area Command” began picking up the bike’s homing signal in their LoJack-equipped patrol cars. The officers tracked the motorcycle into a residential neighborhood near West Badura and Hinson Avenue, where they spotted the motorcycle and suspect. The suspect attempted to flee and dumped the bike. He fled into a startled resident’s home, where officers’ took him into custody as he attempted to hide in a bedroom. Officers discovered that the suspect was also wanted by police in the City of Henderson Nevada for auto theft related offenses.
The Triumph “Daytona” was recovered only 32 minutes after being activated by the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police. The LoJack Vehicle Recovery System was installed in June 2010 in Las Vegas.
