The owner of a 2007 Nissan Maxima recently discovered that the vehicle had had been stolen from the area of the owner’s residence in Muhlenberg Township.  The vehicle owner called 911 and the Muhlenberg Police Department dispatched a uniformed officer to investigate the incident. The officer quickly arrived on location, interviewed the complainant and then surveyed the area for the Nissan. When the officer was unable to locate the Nissan a stolen vehicle report was prepared. The assigned officer arranged for the stolen vehicle information to be entered into the state and federal crime computers which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the Nissan.

The Pennsylvania State Police Auto Theft Unit, in Reading, monitors all stolen vehicle activity within their jurisdiction. The auto theft investigators became aware that Muhlenberg PD had accepted a stolen vehicle report from one of their citizens and that the Nissan was equipped with a LoJack Stolen Vehicle Recovery Unit. The task force members fanned out across the region in unmarked police vehicles that are equipped with LoJack Police Tracking Computers (PTC).  Following the directional and audible cues from the PTC the auto theft investigator tracked the signal to the area of 1200 Greenwich Street in Reading. The investigators observed the parked Nissan and placed same under surveillance.

During the course of the surveillance, a female was observed entering the driver’s side of the Nissan with the use of a key. The auto theft investigators approached and identified themselves as police by announcing police in a loud voice while displaying identification. The female was detained without incident until uniformed Muhlenberg PD arrived on location.

The apparently undamaged Nissan was returned to the owner and the incident remains under investigation by the members of the Pennsylvania State Police Auto Theft Unit in Reading.

The LoJack® System was installed in the 2007 Nissan Maxima in August 2007 at Hilltop Nissan in East Hanover, New Jersey.
