The owner of a 2015 Chevrolet Camaro SS contacted the San Francisco Police Department to report that their vehicle had been stolen. The San Francisco PD verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the Chevrolet Camaro.
A short time later, officers from the Oakland Police Department picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen Chevrolet with the LoJack Police Tracking Computers (PTC) which are installed in patrol vehicles and aircraft. Following the directional and audible cues from the PTC, the officers tracked the stolen Chevrolet to the area of the 5300 block of James Avenue in North Oakland where they found the vehicle unoccupied.
The Chevrolet was recovered and towed/stored to be returned to the owner.
These late model Camaro SS models have become a frequent target of thieves in the San Francisco Bay Area and they are often recovered after having been stripped of their engine/transmission, wheels/tires and interiors. Fortunately this Camaro was quickly located after the theft by means of the LoJack® System before the thieves could return to strip it.
The LoJack® System was installed in the Chevrolet Camaro in June 2015 at Boardwalk Auto Center in Redwood City, California.
