Stolen Honda Motorcycle Recovered in Dallas Backyard with Keys Still in Ignition

On the evening of April 21, 2012, the owner of a 2006 Honda CBR1000 motorcycle stored his bike in his garage with the keys in the ignition. During the night, someone broke into his garage and stole the Honda. When the owner discovered the theft the following morning, he contacted the Johnson County Sheriff’s Department to report the theft.
Johnson County deputies completed a stolen vehicle report and had the Honda’s information entered into the state and federal crime computers – a routine police action that automatically activated the LoJack transponder concealed in the motorcycle. Neither the owner nor law enforcement agents had to do anything else to activate the LoJack Vehicle Recovery Network, because LoJack’s interface with the police is both seamless and instantaneous.
Within hours, officers with the Dallas Police Department began to pick up the silent LoJack homing signal on the LoJack Police Tracking Computer (PTC) installed in their patrol vehicle. Following the directional cues on the PTC, the officers tracked the stolen motorcycle to a vacant house, where they found the motorcycle abandoned in the backyard. The key was still in the ignition. This remains an ongoing investigation.
The LoJack Vehicle Recovery System was installed in the Honda motorcycle at the owner’s request on August 11, 2006.
