Honda Accord Stolen While Owner Shops in Bay Shore — Vehicle Recovered Minutes Later

On April 18, 2012, a 2007 Honda Accord was stolen from a mall parking lot in Bay Shore, Long Island, while the owner was shopping in one of the mall stores. When the owner returned for the vehicle, she discovered it missing and immediately notified the Suffolk County Police Department of the theft.
The Suffolk County officer completed a stolen vehicle report and had the Honda’s information entered into the state and federal computer crime databases (NYSPIN/ NCIC). This routine police action automatically activated the LoJack transponder concealed in the stolen Honda. Neither the owner nor law enforcement agents had to do anything else to activate the LoJack Vehicle Recovery Network, because LoJack’s interface with the police is both seamless and instantaneous.
Less than ten minutes later, officers assigned to the Suffolk County Police Department’s 3rd Precinct picked up the Honda’s silent LoJack signal on their vehicle’s Police Tracking Computer. Following the computer’s directional signal, the officers tracked and located the stolen Honda just a short distance from the theft location in Bay Shore. The undamaged vehicle was secured at the location and returned to the owner at the scene.
