Texas Flight Officers Direct San Antonio Police to Stolen Ford Mustang Minutes After Theft

When the owners of a 1998 Ford Mustang discovered that their vehicle had been stolen, they immediately filed a theft report with the San Antonio Police Department. After officers gathered all of the pertinent information, they had the Ford’s information entered into the state and national law enforcement computer system. This routine action automatically activated the LoJack transponder concealed in the Mustang. Neither the owners nor law enforcement had to do anything else to activate the LoJack Vehicle Recovery Network because LoJack’s interface with the police is both seamless and instantaneous.
Less than one hour later, officers from the Texas Department of Public Safety helicopter division was on patrol when they received the Mustang’s silent homing signals on the LoJack Police Tracking Computers (PTC) installed in the helicopter. The officers then queried the LoJack “Reply Code” appearing on the PTC display screens with the police stolen vehicle computer system and received a full description of the stolen Mustang. Following the directional and signal strength information on the PTC, the flight crew directed San Antonio Police patrol officers to the general vicinity of the vehicle. The ground officers quickly recovered the Mustang.
The LoJack Vehicle Recovery System was installed at the original owner’s request twelve years ago, in October 1999. The current owners were unaware that the Mustang contained the system.
