On April 14, 2012, the owner of a 2005 Ford Mustang reported the vehicle stolen to the Fort Collins Police Department.

Fort Collins Police completed a stolen vehicle report and had the Ford’s VIN entered into the state and federal crime computer systems. This routine police action automatically activated the LoJack transponder concealed inside the stolen Ford Mustang. Neither the owner nor law enforcement agents had to take any further action to activate the LoJack Vehicle Recovery Network, as LoJack’s interface with the police is both seamless and instantaneous.

Minutes later, officers with the Fort Collins Police Department began to pick up the Ford’s silent LoJack homing signal on the LoJack Police Tracking Computer installed in their patrol car. Following the directional and signal strength cues on the LoJack Tracker, the officers quickly located the stolen Mustang. The vehicle was safely recovered, less than one hour after the owner reported it stolen.

The LoJack Vehicle Recovery System was installed in the Mustang at the owner’s request six years earlier, in June 2006.
