LoJack® System Helps Law Enforcement Recover A Stolen 2007 Toyota Tundra

The owner of a 2007 Toyota Tundra pickup truck parked their truck in front of their home before going to bed. The next morning when they attempted to go to work they discovered their truck missing. They contacted the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office to report their vehicle stolen. The responding deputy prepared a stolen vehicle report, theft affidavit and had the vehicle’s information entered into the state and federal crime information computers.
Immediately upon activation, a Florida Highway Patrol trooper picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen Tundra on their on-board LoJack Police Tracking Computer (PTC) while they were at US19 and 70th Avenue, Pinellas Park. The trooper began tracking the stolen Toyota by following the directional and audible cues on the PTC screen. The trooper, along with their backup, observed the pickup truck and performed a “Felony Stop” on it near 58th Street and 70th Avenue, where they apprehended the two thieves occupying the truck. The truck was recovered with no theft damage, released to the owner, who responded to the scene, and removed from state and federal crime information computer systems.
The owner was ecstatic about how quickly their truck was recovered and having no theft damage to it. The owner also learned a valuable lesson from this experience; don’t leave the truck unlocked with the valet key inside of it.
The LoJack® System was installed in the 2007 Toyota Tundra in July 2007 at Auto Way Toyota in Pinellas Park, Florida.
