LoJack® System Helps District of Columbia Metropolitan Police Department Recover Stolen Toyota Camry

The owners of a 2010 Toyota Camry contacted the District of Columbia Metropolitan Police Department to report that their vehicle was stolen from the area of Northeast Washington, DC. The DC Police Radio dispatched a 3rd District officer to investigate the incident. The officer quickly arrived on location, interviewed the complainant and surveyed the area for the subject vehicle. When the officer was unable to locate the Toyota, a stolen vehicle report was prepared. The officer then arranged for the stolen vehicle information to be entered into the state and federal crime computers, which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the Toyota.
A short while later, flight officers from the Prince George’s County Police Department aviation unit picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen Toyota with the LoJack Police Tracking Computers (PTC) that are installed in their helicopters. Following the directional and audible cues from the PTC, the flight officers tracked the Toyota to the intersection of Nash Street and Sheriff Road NE in Washington, DC. At this location, officers observed the Toyota parked and unoccupied. Patrol units from the DC Metropolitan PD that are also equipped with PTCs and were tracking the Toyota, responded to the area and upon arrival recovered the stolen Toyota.
The LoJack® System was installed in the 2010 Toyota Camry in March 2010 at Beltway Toyota in Marlow Heights, Maryland.
