LoJack® System Helps Merced Police Department Recover Stolen Ford F450

The owner of a Ford F450 pickup contacted the Merced Police Department to report that his vehicle was stolen during the night. The Merced PD verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the Ford.
About ninety minutes after being entered into the stolen vehicle system, an officer from the Merced PD picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen Ford with the LoJack Police Tracking Computer (PTC) that are installed in patrol vehicles and aircraft. Following the directional and audible cues from the PTC, the officer tracked the Ford to the vicinity of Meadowbrook and Oakland Avenues in north Merced. The officer spotted the Ford backed into a driveway at a residence, occupied by two male adults. Upon seeing the police approaching, both males exited the pickup; one ran into the residence, the second fled into the neighborhood. Officers pursued both suspects but only the one that ran into the residence was captured. This suspect was arrested for possession of stolen property and vehicle theft. The outstanding suspect has been identified and is being sought by the police.
The Ford was recovered intact and undamaged; it was released to the owner at the scene of the recovery.
The LoJack® System was installed in March 2007 by the Commercial Sales Department.
