The owner of a 2005 Ford F-150 pickup truck parked their truck in the parking lot of a Pompano Beach motel, leaving the keys in the ignition and walked to the corner store. Somewhere between the corner store and returning to their truck, the owner had a “run in” with the police and was arrested. After getting out of jail, the owner returned to the motel parking lot and discovered their truck missing. After several phone calls to the local tow companies and a check of the area, the owner contacted the Broward County Sheriff’s Office to report their vehicle stolen. The responding deputy prepared a stolen vehicle report, theft affidavit and had the vehicle’s information entered into the state and federal crime information computers.

Immediately upon activation, while on routine patrol, a Broward County SO deputy picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen F-150 pickup on their on-board LoJack Police Tracking Computer (PTC). The deputy began tracking the stolen F-150 by following the directional and audible cues on the PTC screen. The deputy, along with their backup, located the pickup truck abandoned in the 300 block of N.W. 5th Street. The pickup truck was recovered, towed to the police impound yard for safekeeping, and removed from state and federal crime information computer systems.

The LoJack® System was installed in the 2005 Ford F-150 in August 2005 at Maroone Ford of Fort Lauderdale in Florida.
