The owner of a 2001 Mercedes-Benz CLK320 2-door convertible contacted the Boca Raton Police Department to report that their vehicle was stolen. The owner advised the responding officer that his son parked their Mercedes in the driveway unlocked and with the keys over the visor on New Year’s Eve. The next morning the owner discovered his Mercedes missing. The owner lives in a gated community, patrolled by a security company and according to security there were a number of New Year’s Eve parties going on in the community. The responding officer prepared a stolen vehicle report, theft affidavit and had the vehicle’s information entered into the state and federal crime information computers.

Later that afternoon, while on routine patrol, a Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office deputy picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen CLK320 on their on-board LoJack Police Tracking Computer (PTC). The deputy began tracking the stolen CLK320 by following the directional and audible cues on the PTC screen. The deputy, along with their backup and officers from the Delray Beach Police Department, located the CLK320 in the 500 block of N.W. 47th Avenue, Delray Beach, where a felony stop was performed. Three suspects were arrested and transported to the Delray Beach PD headquarters for further investigation and processing. One suspect was arrested for Grand Theft Auto. Another suspect was charged with Grand Theft Auto, Possession of Marijuana and for Resisting Arrest without Violence. The third suspect was arrested for Trespassing in a Conveyance. The Mercedes was recovered, processed for evidence, towed to the police impound yard for safekeeping and removed from state and federal crime information computer systems.

The LoJack® System was installed in the 2001 Mercedes-Benz CLK320 in May 2002 at Autohaus Mercedes Benz in Pompano Beach, Florida.
