LoJack® System Helps Phoenix Police Department Recover Stolen Jeep Wrangler

The owners of a 2005 Jeep Wrangler contacted the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Department to report that their vehicle had been stolen from a hospital parking lot in Sun City.  The owners advised that the Jeep was stolen between 7:10 AM and 4:10 PM while at work.

The MCSD deputy verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the Jeep.

Four minutes later officers from the Glendale Police Department and the helicopter crew from the Phoenix Police Department picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen Jeep with the LoJack Police Tracking Computers (PTC) that are installed in patrol vehicles and aircraft.  Following the directional and audible cues from the PTC, the Phoenix PD helicopter crew tracked the Jeep to an apartment complex in the area of 91st Avenue and Camelback Road in Phoenix.

The Phoenix PD marked units responded to the area and located the Jeep unoccupied in the parking lot of the apartment complex.  The stolen Jeep was recovered and processed for evidence.  The Jeep was later returned to the owners in good condition.

The LoJack® System was installed in the Jeep Wrangler in November 2005 at Brown and Brown Chevrolet in Mesa, Arizona.
