LoJack® System Helps Law Enforcement Recover Stolen Toyota Corolla

The owner of a 2015 Toyota Corolla 4-door sedan contacted the Fort Lauderdale Police Department to report his car stolen. He met with an officer and advised him that he and his “girlfriend” had gone out on Saturday night. They came back to his hotel, where he lives, and they fell asleep shortly after their arrival. The owner woke up the next morning and discovered his “girlfriend” was gone along with his car keys. The owner checked the parking lot and realized that his Toyota was missing as well. The owner advised that he had been trying to contact his “girlfriend” she wouldn’t answer her phone.
The responding officer prepared a stolen vehicle report, theft affidavit and had the vehicle’s information entered into the state and federal crime information computers. This routine police procedure automatically transmits an activation command to the LoJack Stolen Vehicle Recovery transponder concealed in the Toyota to begin broadcasting its signal. Later in the day, while on routine patrol, a Lauderhill Police Department officer picked up the silent LoJack signal emanating from the stolen Corolla on their on-board LoJack Police Tracking Computer (PTC). The officer began tracking the stolen Toyota by following the directional and audible cues on the PTC screen. The officer, along with their backup, located the Toyota. The Toyota was recovered, released to the owner and removed from state and federal crime information computer systems. It should be noted that this was the second time this Toyota had been reported stolen.
The LoJack® System was installed in the 2015 Toyota Corolla in June 2015 at Lipton Toyota in Oakland Park, Florida.
