The owners of a 2001Lincoln Navigator contacted the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department (CMPD) to report that their vehicle was stolen during the previous night from the driveway of their northeast Charlotte residence. A vehicle key may have been left in the Lincoln. No suspect information was known.
The CMPD verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the Lincoln.

Within the hour of the stolen vehicle report officers from the CMDP picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen Lincoln with the LoJack Police Tracking Computers (PTC) that are installed in patrol vehicles and aircraft. Following the directional and audible cues from the PTC, the officers tracked the Lincoln to Ilford St and Cutshaw Court. The Lincoln was found sitting on the shoulder of the street, unoccupied and the hood of the vehicle hot (indicating the Lincoln had recently been driven). No recent damage was found to the Lincoln however the driver’s side door lock was covered by a piece of duct tape.

The owner of the Lincoln was contacted to take possession of the vehicle. The owner requested the Lincoln to be towed, stored and processed for latent evidence. The investigation remains open and active.

The LoJack® System was installed in the Lincoln Navigator in August 2001at Compass Lincoln Mercury in Orange, New Jersey.
