LoJack® System Helps Michigan State Police Recover Stolen GMC Suburban

The owner of a GMC Suburban contacted the Eastpointe Police Department to report that her vehicle was stolen from a mall parking lot at gun point by an unknown suspect.
The Eastpointe PD verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the GMC.
Minutes later pilots from the Michigan State Police Aviation Unit “Trooper 2” on routine air patrol in Metro Detroit picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen GMC. Following the directional and audible cues the pilots tracked the GMC to a remote residential area of Detroit. “Trooper 2” remained in the area while ground units equipped with LoJack Police Tracking Computers responded.
The GMC was abandoned along with another vehicle which was reported stolen in another carjacking. Both vehicles were impounded for processing. This was the first recovery for “Trooper 2” a new Bell 407 helicopter just acquired by the Michigan State Police and assigned to the Metro Detroit area.
The LoJack® System was installed in the GMC Suburban in March 2000 by Roy O’Brien Inc. in St. Clair Shores, Michigan.
