The owner of a 2006 Hummer H3 contacted the Cicero Police Department to report that their vehicle was stolen from in front of their residence in the 3000 block of South 48th Street in Cicero, Illinois. Officers from the Cicero PD verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers, which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the Hummer.

Short while later police officers from the Chicago Police Department’s Helicopter unit using the LoJack Police Tracking Computers (PTC) that are installed in patrol vehicles and aircraft picked up the signal from the stolen Hummer. Following the directional and audible cues from the PTC the stolen Hummer was tracked to the 3000 block of South Kenneth Ave in Chicago’s South Lawndale neighborhood. The helicopter directed ground units to the area where the Hummer was found parked and unoccupied.

The Hummer was recovered from a suburban steal within hours of being reported stolen undamaged and returned to a grateful owner before it could be stripped, cloned or used in a crime.

The LoJack® System was installed in the Hummer H3 in September 2006 at Woodfield Chevrolet in Schaumberg, Illinois.
