Miami-Dade Officers Quickly Recover Air Compressor Stolen from Job Site in Plantation, FL

On Friday, March 16, 2012, the operator of a 2004 Ingersoll-Rand air compressor discovered the equipment missing from their job site. The owner of the equipment contacted the Plantation Police Department to report their equipment stolen. Upon arrival at the scene, the responding officer met with the owner, who stated that sometime between March 13 and March 16, someone had stolen the air compressor from where it was had parked at the job site. The officer prepared a stolen vehicle report and had the equipment’s information entered into the federal and state crime computers. This routine police procedure automatically activated the LoJack transponder concealed in the air compressor
Within 35 minutes of activation, a Miami-Dade Police Department officer received the silent LoJack signal from the stolen air compressor’s LoJack unit, and began tracking the stolen equipment by following the directional and signal strength cues on their patrol car’s LoJack Police Tracking Computer.
Shortly thereafter, the officer, along with backup, located the equipment beneath a tarp at an abandoned house near N.W. 153rd Street and South River Drive. The equipment was recovered, towed to the police impound yard for safekeeping, and removed from the police crime computer systems.
The LoJack Vehicle Recovery System was installed in this Ingersoll-Rand air compressor on March 11, 2004, and has been protecting it ever since.
