The owners of a Dodge Intrepid contacted the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office to report that their vehicle was stolen from their residence overnight in Pontiac, Michigan.

The Oakland County SO verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the Dodge Intrepid.

Minutes later pilots from the Oakland County SO Aviation Unit on routine air patrol picked up the silent LoJack  signal from the stolen Dodge with the LoJack Police Tracking Computers (PTC) that are installed in patrol vehicles and aircraft.  Following the directional and audible cues from the PTC, the pilots tracked the Dodge to a parking lot in Pontiac, Michigan.  The pilots observed that the Dodge was occupied.  Working with ground units also equipped with LoJack PTC’s a felony stop was made and the occupants were arrested.

Because of the quick recovery the suspects did not have enough time to strip the stolen Dodge or use it to commit additional crimes.  This is to be further investigated by the Oakland County Auto Theft Team (OCAT).

The LoJack® System was installed in the Dodge Intrepid in April 2003 at Bledsoe Dodge in Dallas, Texas.
