The manager of a major car rental agency reported to the Nassau County Police Department 3rd precinct, Westbury, New York, to report that his rental agency had been scammed out of a couple of cars.  Two males entered the business under the premise of renting a couple of cars; they presented identification as well as credit cards to complete their transaction. They left with the vehicles, one of which was a BMW equipped with the LoJack® System. After they left, the manager of the rental agency started doing an investigation of his own.  He found out the same persons, or persons part of the same group, had rented cars from another one of his business locations, also with phony, ID s, and they never returned the cars.

Officers verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the BMW.

A short while later, some 50 miles away, Officers from the Bronx Auto Larceny Unit picked up the silent signal from the LoJack® System in the BMW on their LoJack Police Tracking Computers installed in their patrol vehicles. They followed the directional and audible cues from the PTC they tracked the signal into a residential area of the Bronx where they located the BMW parked and unoccupied. They staked the BMW out, after several hours when no came for it, they took the vehicle into custody.

The BMW was recovered in excellent condition. The manager of the dealership was notified and he was elated that his BMW was recovered so quickly with the use of LoJack. He further stated that he was extremely happy that his company had purchased LoJack when they bought the BMW stating that he was sorry it was not on the other vehicles that were fraudulently rented.

The LoJack® System was installed in the 2016 BMW 640i in August 2015 via Commercial Sales in Ronkonkoma, New York.
