The owners of this Honda Accord were alarmed to discover that their car had been stolen from the parking lot of their apartment complex during the night, thus making them late for work and wondering how they would be able to replace their only transportation.

They reported the auto theft to the Murray Police Department.  An officer verified the theft and had the vehicle information entered into the state and federal crime computers.  This action automatically “woke-up” the LoJack® System concealed in the Honda.  The now activated LoJack unit in the Honda was then broadcasting its homing signal to the police.

The West Valley Police Department officers picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen Accord with the LoJack Police Tracking Computers (PTCs) that are installed in patrol vehicles and aircraft.

Following the directional and audible cues from the PTC, these officers quickly tracked and located the unoccupied Honda parked at an apartment complex.

A police supervisor directed officers to pull back from the Honda so that a covert surveillance could be initiated in hopes that the perpetrators would return to the vehicle.  Their patience was rewarded when three persons returned to the Honda and entered it.  The West Valley PD officers contacted the Honda and through their good work and tactics two suspects were arrested for auto theft.  The undamaged Honda was safely recovered and returned to the very surprised and happy owners.

In the 18-year life of this Honda Accord it has been stolen three times during the last 5-years.  Each time the LoJack, which was installed in 1997 at the behest of the original owner in Massachusetts, has helped Utah police agencies make quick recoveries of the stolen car, and arrest thieves, even though the various current owners were unaware that their vehicle was protected by LoJack.
