The owner of a 2010 Toyota Camry contacted the Newark Police Department to report that when they were stopped at a traffic light on Broad Street, a male with a hand gun forced them from their vehicle and drove off in the Toyota Camry.

The Newark PD verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the Toyota Camry.

A short while later, officers from the Essex County Sheriff’s Department picked up the silent LoJack signal coming from the stolen Toyota with the LoJack Police Tracking Computers (PTC) that are installed in patrol vehicles. Following the directional and audible cues from the PTC, the officers tracked the Toyota to Raymond Avenue and Washington Street where the vehicle was found abandoned in the intersection. The Toyota was recovered undamaged.

The LoJack® System was installed in the 2010 Toyota Camry in May 2010 by Route 22 Toyota Inc. in Hillside, New Jersey.
