In the early morning hours the managers of a construction site discovered the theft of one of their equipment trucks from the lot. This truck also contained thousands of dollars’ worth of tools and equipment. The theft was reported to the Larimer County Sheriff’s Office. A deputy verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the Ford F-250.

A short time later a Colorado State Patrol aircraft picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen Ford with the LoJack Police Tracking Computer (PTC) which are installed in police patrol vehicles and aircraft. Following the directional and audible cues from the PTC, the pilot tracked and located the truck at a residence in rural Weld County. Troopers from the CSP Troop 1D-Adams and 3A-Weld, Investigators from the CSP Investigative Services Section and BATTLE (Beat Auto Theft Through Law Enforcement) Task Force were notified and responded immediately.
The CSP pilot could see that persons were unloading items from the stolen truck and carrying them into the house.
Investigators in an unmarked patrol car followed the truck to a second location in the town of Dacono where officers from CSP, Dacono PD, Frederick PD and Weld County SO responded to assist.

The Ford F-250 was recovered undamaged over 40 miles away from where it had been stolen. The tools and equipment stolen from the Ford truck were recovered. Two persons who had attempted to flee on foot from the Ford truck were arrested. A third person suspected of knowingly purchasing stolen items has been identified.
Also a 2001 Dodge Durango that had been stolen in Brighton, Colorado, in May 2015 (not equipped with LoJack) was recovered as the result of this incident.

This investigation is being continued by CSP and BATTLE investigators.
The LoJack® System was installed in the Ford F-250 last year at the request of the current owners.
