The owners of a 2004 Nissan Murano contacted the Montgomery County Police Department to report that their vehicle was stolen from their home in the 11000 block Hawks Ridge Terrace in Germantown, Maryland.

The Montgomery County PD verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the Nissan.

A short while later officers from the District of Columbia Metropolitan Police Department picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen Nissan with the LoJack Police Tracking Computers (PTC) that are installed in their patrol vehicles.  Following the directional and audible cues from the PTC, the officers tracked the Nissan to the rear alley of 4000 block Ely Street SE in Washington, DC. At that location, officers observed the Nissan parked and unoccupied. Officers recovered the undamaged Nissan and notified the owner. At the time of recovery, officers noted that the Nissan’s registered license plates had been removed and replaced with fraudulent temporary tags to elude license plate readers.

The LoJack® System was installed in the 2004 Nissan Murano in January 2004 by Antwerpen Nissan in Clarksville, Maryland.
