LoJack® System Helps Law Enforcement Recover Stolen 2015 Toyota Camry

The owner of a 2015 Toyota Camry 4-door sedan contacted the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office to report that their vehicle was car jacked by a deranged subject. Upon arrival of the responding deputy, the owner and witness described to the following: The owner advised that they parked their Toyota and they were putting their purse in the shopping cart, when a subject grabbed them from behind, attempting to grab their keys. The owner fought with the subject when the key ring broke. The subject took the car key and entered the Toyota to drive away. While the subject was backing up, a witness ran over and attempted to take the subject out of the Toyota. The subject backed the Toyota up resulting in the door striking the witness causing the witness to fall to the ground.
While preparing a stolen vehicle report and theft affidavit, the responding deputy had the vehicle’s information immediately entered into the state and federal crime information computers.
Shortly thereafter officers from the Miami Gardens Police Department and the Miami-Dade Police Department picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen Camry on their on-board LoJack Police Tracking Computer (PTC). The officers began tracking the stolen Camry by following the directional and audible cues on their PTC screen. A Miami-Dade PD K-9 officer observed the Camry and the suspect in the driver’s seat behind the wheel in a gas station at the northeast corner of N.W. 27th Avenue and N.W. 167th Street. The suspect was apprehended at that location without incident and arrested by the Miami Gardens PD auto theft unit who were at the scene. The Camry was recovered, towed to the police impound yard for safekeeping and removed from state and federal crime information computer systems.
The LoJack® System was installed in the 2015 Toyota Camry in February 2015 by Royal Palm Toyota in Royal Palm Beach, Florida.
