LoJack® System Helps North Carolina DMV License & Theft Bureau Recover Stolen Honda Accord

The owner of a 2008 Honda Accord contacted the Wake County Sheriff’s Office to report that their vehicle was stolen from their adult son’s possession by an unknown person and the time and place of theft wasn’t exactly known. The son, now in a treatment center, has been unable to recall all of the event details.
The Wake County SO officers verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the Honda.
A short while later an Inspector of the NCDMV License & Theft Bureau was leaving his agency’s supply unit near downtown Raleigh to return to his assigned duty station in coastal North Carolina. As the Inspector traveled I-40 east bound out of Raleigh, nearing the Jones Sausage Road Exit # 303, he picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen Honda with the LoJack Police Tracking Computers (PTC) that are installed in patrol vehicles and aircraft. Following the directional and audible cues from the PTC, the Inspector tracked the Honda to a senior living complex off Creech Road. The Honda was located in the visitor’s parking lot. Staff on site indicated an unknown male, not associated with the senior center, parked the Honda earlier in the morning and walked away from the complex.
The Honda was towed and secured for crime scene latent evidence examination prior to being released to the owner.
The LoJack® System was installed in the Honda Accord in October 2009 at Johnson Lexus in Raleigh, NC.
