The owner of a 2006 Toyota RAV-4 sport utility vehicle was accosted in the parking lot of an apartment complex in Margate. The owner contacted the Margate Police Department to report that their vehicle was stolen in the carjacking. The responding officer prepared a stolen vehicle report, theft affidavit and had the vehicle’s information entered into the state and federal crime information computers.

Within minutes of the activation, a Broward County Sheriff’s Office deputy picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen RAV-4 on their on-board LoJack Police Tracking Computer (PTC).  The deputy began tracking the stolen Toyota by following the directional and audible cues on their PTC screen. The deputy, along with their backup, located the Toyota. Upon attempting to being stopped by the BCSO deputy, the suspect fled to elude the law enforcement officers. The suspect eventually stopped the Toyota in the 2200 block of N.W. 5th Street, Pompano Beach, and fled on foot eluding the officers. The Toyota was recovered, towed to the police impound yard for safekeeping and processing, and removed from state and federal crime information computer systems.

The LoJack® System was installed in the 2006 Toyota RAV-4 sport utility vehicle at Kendall Toyota in Kendall, Florida, in March 2006.
