Pontiac Convertible Stolen from Driveway with Engine Running — Recovered 2 Hours Later by Washington State Troopers

On the morning of March 2, 2012, the owner of a 2007 Pontiac Solstice started the car to warm it up and left it unattended in her driveway in the 4000 block of South 331st Street in Federal Way. An opportunistic thief happened upon the idling vehicle and stole it. The owner quickly discovered the convertible missing and immediately reported the theft to the Federal Way Police Department.
Federal Way officers responded, and after preparing a stolen vehicle report, had the Pontiac’s information entered into the state and federal crime computer databases. This routine police action automatically activated the LoJack transponder concealed in the vehicle. Neither the owner nor law enforcement had to do anything else to activate the LoJack Stolen Vehicle Recovery Network, because LoJack’s interface with law enforcement is both seamless and instantaneous.
Less than two hours later, a Washington State Patrol trooper received the silent homing signal transmitting from the stolen Pontiac on the LoJack Police Tracking Computer installed in his patrol car. Following the audio and visual cues appearing on the LoJack Tracker display, he located the car at an apartment complex in the 1800 block of South 336th in Federal Way. The owner was called and took possession of her car just over two hours from the time she reported it stolen. The vehicle did not appear to be danaged.
The LoJack Vehicle Recovery System was installed in the Pontiac convertible in July 2007.
