The owners of a 1997 Mercedes Benz S420 contacted the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office to report that their vehicle was stolen. They had their car being worked on at a friend’s repair shop. The mechanic left the keys in the ignition and walked away for a short while. Upon returning to the front of the shop he observed the subject driving off in the Mercedes Benz.

The Jefferson Parish SO verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the Mercedes Benz.

40 minutes later officers from the New Orleans Police Department picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen Mercedes Benz with the LoJack Police Tracking Computers (PTC) that are installed in patrol vehicles and aircraft.  Following the directional and audible cues from the PTC, the officers tracked the Mercedes Benz as it was driven around in New Orleans East. The officers conducted a vehicle stop on Chef Highway and placed the driver under arrest for possession of the stolen Mercedes Benz.  The arrest subject escaped as he was being transported and later apprehended with the assistance of the K-9 unit. The suspect was charged with multiple violations including Possession of the stolen Mercedes Benz.

The Mercedes Benz was returned to the happy owner in great shape.

The LoJack® System was installed in the Mercedes Benz S420 in August 1997 at Herb Chambers Mercedes Benz in Boston, Massachusetts.
