LoJack® System Helps Texas Department of Public Safety Recover Stolen 2007 Case 580 Backhoe

The owners of a 2007 Case backhoe contacted the Houston Police Department to report that their vehicle was stolen sometime over the previous weekend. The backhoe was parked and secured at their construction site at 22600 Eastex Freeway in North Houston at the end of the work day.

The Houston PD verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the Case backhoe.

Less than one (1) hour later troopers from the Texas Department of Public Safety picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen backhoe with the LoJack Police Tracking Computers (PTC) that are installed in patrol vehicles and aircraft.  Following the directional and audible cues from the PTC, the troopers tracked the Case backhoe to a large undeveloped wooded area, several miles from the theft location, behind the Kingwood Hospital. The backhoe had been driven several hundred feet into the wooded area in order to hide it from the view of the roadway. The owner came to the location and took custody of the backhoe. No suspects or arrest.

The LoJack® System was installed in the 2007 Case Backhoe in July 2007 via commercial sales.
