LoJack® System Helps Glendale Police Department Recover Stolen Volvo S-60

The owner of this Volvo S-60 contacted the LAPD Devonshire Division and reported that their vehicle had been stolen from a local body shop during the night. The officers verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers, which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the Volvo.
Within 20 minutes from the activation, officers from the Glendale Police Department picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen Volvo with the LoJack Police Tracking Computers (PTC) that are installed in patrol vehicles and aircraft. Following the directional and audible cues from the PTC, the officers tracked the Volvo to the area of 4100 block Verdugo Road where the officers observed the stolen Volvo parked at a local gas station. They then observed two males approaching the Volvo and noted that one of the subjects matched the description given in the initial crime report. The officers detained these two individuals and began their field investigation. One of the subjects gave two different accounts of how he arrived at this gas station and was found to be on Felony probation for receiving stolen property. The second male was questioned and gave the story that his friend who the officers had just interviewed drove the Volvo to his home and told him that he had just obtained a job at a local body shop and that was where he had obtained the Volvo. The second suspect admitted he had driven the Volvo to the gas station. Both suspects were arrested and later booked for driving a motor vehicle without owner’s permission. The undamaged Volvo was returned to the owner.
The LoJack® Stolen Vehicle Recovery System was installed in this Volvo in February 2013.
