Freightliner Truck Leased Over a Year Earlier Never Returned — Suspect Arrested for Non-Return

On February 14, 2012, the manager of Ryder Truck Leasing in Conyers contacted the local police department to report that a 2005 Freightliner truck had not been returned to the lot. After completing a stolen vehicle report, the responding police officer had the Freighliner’s information entered into the state and federal crime computer databses. This routine police action automatically activated the LoJack transponder concealed within the truck. Neither the manager nor law enforcement agents had to do anything else to activate the hidden Lojack transponder, because Lojack’s interface with law enforcement is both seamless and instantaneous.
Minutes later, an officer with the Dekalb County Police Department began to pick up the silent homing signal from the Freightliner’s LoJack transponder on the LoJack Tracking Computer Installed in his patrol vehicle. Following the directional and signal strength cues on the computer, the officer tracked the truck to a local business, where he ovserved a driver climbing into the driver’s seat.
The officer interviewed the driver, who stated that he had leased the truck over a year ago and failed to return it. The driver was arrested for the non-return, and the truck was returned to Ryder in excellent condition.
