LoJack® System Helps Norristown Police Department Recover Stolen Mercedes-Benz

An employee of a used car dealership in Bridgeport PA entered the premises and discovered that a burglary had taken place. Further investigation by the employee revealed that the perpetrator(s) had removed the ignition keys to three vehicles that were in stock. The employee checked the property and discovered that a Mercedes Benz, an Infiniti and a BMW had been stolen. Bridgeport Police were notified and an officer quickly responded to the scene. The officer conducted an investigation and checked the area for the subject vehicles. When the vehicles could not be located, the officer prepared stolen vehicle reports. The officer then arranged to have the stolen vehicle information entered into the Pennsylvania State and federal crime computers which automatically activated the LoJack® System that had been concealed in the Mercedes Benz in 2001 at Autohaus Mercedes Benz in Florida.

Minutes after the LoJack Tower System   began to broadcast a stolen vehicle activation signal to the stolen Mercedes Benz, A Norristown police officer assigned to a marked police vehicle picked up the silent LoJack® homing signals from the stolen Mercedes with the LoJack® Police Tracking Computers (PTC) that is installed in Norristown Police Patrol Vehicles. The officer notified Norristown Police Radio and was advised that the LoJack signal was assigned to the Mercedes Benz taken in a burglary. Following the directional and audible cues from the PTC, the officer tracked the signal to a large apartment complex in Norristown. The LoJack signal directed the officer to the rear of the parking lot where the officer observed a Mercedes Benz matching description of the stolen vehicle. Other officers arrived and assisted the tracking officer in approaching the subject vehicle which was found to be unoccupied. Police searched the area for possible suspects and confiscated the apparent undamaged subject vehicle.

This incident remains under investigation by Bridgeport and Norristown Police.
