In this case, the LoJack® system does double duty. Not only does LoJack assist law enforcement in the recovery of a Ford F-350 stolen from a hotel lot in Dallas, TX, but it also led police to a suspected chop shop operation as well.

On June 13th, 2014, the Ford’s owner contacted the Dallas Police Department to report that his vehicle was stolen. Officers verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers. This procedure automatically activated the LoJack transponder concealed in the F-350, which was installed at Lone Star Ford in Houston, TX.

A short while later, officers from the Dallas PD picked up the silent homing signals from the stolen pickup on the LoJack tracking computers installed in their patrol vehicles. The officers followed the signal to a private residence on Canada Drive, where they observed two suspects in the backyard with the truck and the transmission of another stolen pickup. This backyard appeared to be an active chop shop. Both suspects were taken into custody and the F-350 was soon returned to its rightful owner.
