A Yamaha YZF-R6 motorcycle was stolen from Queens, NY, on a recent Wednesday. The LoJack® system that the owner had installed at purchase proved its worth by helping local police recover it even though it was concealed in a private garage.

On July 2nd, 2014, the Yamaha’s owner contacted the NYPD 114th Precinct. Officers verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers. This action automatically activated the LoJack unit concealed on the YZF-R6, which was installed at New York Motorcycle in Queens Village, NY.

A short while later, officers from the NYPD Queens North Auto Larceny Unit picked up the silent homing signal from the stolen bike on the LoJack tracking computers installed in their patrol vehicles. The signal led them to two private adjoining garages on a residential street in Maspeth. In one garage, officers found the Yamaha as well as another stolen motorcycle. The YZF-R6, in good condition, was retrieved and soon returned to its elated owner. Further investigation is pending.
