Hundreds of home improvement stores in the United States also rent trucks and equipment for their customers who need these machines on a temporary basis. When a lessee fails to return a rental unit, it results in the loss of income for the store and an inconvenience for other customers. That’s why so many leasing retailers choose to protect their assets with the LoJack® system, so law enforcement has an advantage in making a fast, safe recovery. In this case, a store in Nassau County, NY, was assisted by local police, with help from LoJack, when a customer failed to return a rented 2011 Ford F-350 on time.

On May 31st, 2014, the store manager reported the incident to the Nassau County Police. Officers verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers. This procedure automatically activated the LoJack transponder concealed in the F-350.

A short while later, officers from the Nassau County PD picked up the silent signal from the stolen truck on the LoJack tracking computers installed in their patrol vehicles. The Ford was located in Valley Stream, where it was found parked and abandoned on a quiet residential street, with the keys in the ignition. The F-350, in excellent condition, was retrieved and quickly returned to the store.
