It was late on a recent Thursday evening when thieves broke into a home in San Francisco, CA, stole several of the owner’s belongings including her keys, and took off in her Smart Fortwo. It’s a good thing this victim was as smart as her vehicle and chose to protect her Fortwo with the LoJack® system. With LoJack’s help, local police were able to recover the car and some of her belongings as well.

On May 15th, 2014, the Smart’s owner contacted San Francisco Police. Officers verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers. This action automatically activated the LoJack transponder concealed in the Fortwo, which was installed at Mercedes-Benz of San Francisco, CA.

The next day, San Jose PD officers picked up the silent homing signals from the stolen car on the LoJack tracking computers installed in their patrol vehicles. The Smart was located being driven at a strip mall in downtown San Jose. A traffic stop was performed and the driver taken into custody. Several items belonging to the victim and additional stolen items from local stores were found inside the car. The undamaged Fortwo was retrieved and soon returned to its appreciative owner.
