The owners of a 2004 Toyota Prius contacted the Charles County Sheriff’s Department to report that their vehicle was stolen from the area of 6800 Crain Highway in the La Plata area of Charles County, Maryland. Charles County Sheriff’s Radio dispatched a deputy to investigate the incident. The deputy quickly arrived on location, interviewed the complainant and surveyed the area for the subject vehicle. Investigation by the on scene deputy determined the vehicle was stolen after it was left unattended with the keys in the ignition. When the deputy was unable to locate the vehicle, a stolen vehicle report was prepared. The deputy then arranged for the stolen vehicle information to be entered into the state and federal crime computers, which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the 2004 Toyota Prius.

A short while later, detectives from the Washington Area Vehicle Enforcement in Prince George’s County, Maryland picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen 2004 Toyota Prius with the LoJack Police Tracking Computers (PTC) that are installed in patrol vehicles and aircraft. Following the directional and audible cues from the PTC, the detectives tracked the vehicle to 2700 Morris Avenue in the Suitland area of Prince George’s County, Maryland. At this location, detectives observed the vehicle parked and unoccupied. The vehicle was recovered by police and the owner notified. Deputies in Charles County were able to determine the identity of the theft suspect and charging documents were issued.

Approximate value of vehicle: $7,600.00

The LoJack® System was installed in the 2004 Toyota Prius in April, 2004 at Ourisman Fairfax Toyota in Fairfax, Virginia.
