The owners of a 2018 Ram 1500 contacted the Los Angeles Police Department to report that their vehicle was stolen. Officers verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the Ram 1500.

A short while later officers from LAPD North Hollywood Division picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen Ram with the LoJack Police Tracking Computers (PTC) that are installed in patrol vehicles and aircraft. LAPD Air-10 also picked up the signal and directed the officers toward Laurel Canyon and Sherman Way. Following the directional and audible cues from the PTC, the officers tracked the vehicle to Sherman Way east of Whitsett Ave where they observed the vehicle traveling west on Sherman Way. The suspect began driving erratically going from lane to lane, making abrupt turns apparently trying to lose the ground unit. Officers initiated a short pursuit which terminated 5 seconds later when the suspect pulled into a fast food restaurant parking lot where he was taken into custody by the officers without further incident.

The suspect was interview by the officers and told them he had borrowed the truck from a friend to go to the market. During the search of the Ram, officers found numerous false Government IDs as well as names of people. The suspect was booked for the theft of the vehicle with an additional charge of Manufacturing or Selling False Citizenship or Resident Alien Documents

The vehicle was processed and later returned to the victim.

The LoJack® System was installed in the Ram 1500 at Rydell Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram, Van Nuys CA in November of 2017.
