The owners of a 2005 Chevrolet Silverado contacted the Tucson Police Department to report that their vehicle had been stolen.

The Tucson Police Department verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the Chevrolet.

Nine minutes later, deputies from the Pima County Sheriff’s Department picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen Chevrolet with the LoJack Police Tracking Computers (PTC) that are installed in patrol vehicles and aircraft.  Following the directional and audible cues from the PTC, the deputies tracked the vehicle to an apartment complex.

The stolen Chevy pickup was located unoccupied in the parking lot of the apartment complex.  Auto theft detectives from the Pima County Sheriff’s Department responded to conduct surveillance.   Detectives observed a Ford F250 pickup parked near the stolen Chevy pickup and determined that it was also stolen.   A short time later a suspect was observed getting into the stolen Ford F250 pickup.  The suspect was detained without incident.  The license plates to the stolen vehicles were located in a nearby dumpster.  The suspect was arrested and booked for vehicle theft.  Additional charges are pending further investigation.

Both vehicles were recovered and processed for evidence.  The stolen Chevy pickup was recovered in good condition and later returned to the owners.

The LoJack® System was installed in the Chevrolet Silverado in July 2007 at O’Rielly Chevrolet, Tucson, Arizona.
