The owners of a 2004 Toyota Tacoma pickup contacted the Tempe Police Department to report that their vehicle had been stolen with the keys from the parking lot of their place of employment.

The Tempe Police Department verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the Toyota.

Twelve minutes later, troopers from the Arizona Highway Patrol picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen Toyota with the LoJack Police Tracking Computers (PTC) that are installed in patrol vehicles and aircraft.  Following the directional and audible cues from the PTC, the troopers tracked the vehicle to the area of Rural Road and Baseline Road in Tempe.

The Highway Patrol Troopers located the stolen Toyota in the parking lot of a home improvement store.  No suspects were seen with the vehicle, so the troopers conducted surveillance on the vehicle while auto theft detectives responded to the area.  The detectives from the Arizona Vehicle Theft Task Force conducted surveillance for several hours.  No suspects were seen returning to the stolen Toyota.  The vehicle was recovered by the task force detectives and processed for evidence.  The vehicle was returned to the owner in good condition.

The LoJack® System was installed in the Toyota Tacoma in March 2007, for an Arizona Direct Customer, Phoenix, Arizona.
