LoJack System Helps Chicago Police Department Recover Stolen Ford Expedition

The owner of a 1999 Ford Expedition called the Chicago Police Department to report her vehicle was stolen overnight from in front of her boyfriend’s residence in Chicago’s Irving Woods neighborhood on the 3300 block of N Pacific Ave. The Chicago PD verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the Ford Expedition.
Shortly after the Ford Expedition was activated an Illinois State Police Trooper from the Chicago District equipped with the LoJack Police Tracking Computer (PTC) picked up the silent and directional signal being broadcast from the stolen Expedition. The Illinois State Police Trooper following the signal tracked the stolen Ford to the 3800 block of North Pioneer Avenue where the vehicle was recovered parked and unoccupied on a residence’s side drive. The Ford Expedition had its plates removed in an attempt to hide its identification as stolen. The Ford was recovered and returned to owner. Police investigation into this vehicle theft continues.
Due to LoJack the owner of this Ford Expedition had her vehicle recovered hours after it was entered as stolen. The Ford, which was the victim’s only means of transportation, was recovered before it could be damaged, stripped or used in a crime.
The LoJack® System was installed in the Ford Expedition in September 1999 at Enterprise of Chicago in Illinois.
