The owner of a 2015 Chevrolet Silverado contacted the Guadalupe County Sheriff’s Office in Santa Rosa, New Mexico, and reported that their vehicle had been stolen. The owner advised he parked his Silverado at the county yard while he was out in the county doing road work. His supervisor noticed his Silverado was not in the yard and called him asking if he went home early. The owner was shocked and immediately called to report his Silverado stolen. A deputy verified the theft and had the vehicle information entered into the state and federal crime computers. This routine action on the part of law enforcement automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the Chevrolet truck.

Later in the day the Colorado Springs Police Department and the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office personnel picked up the silent LoJack signal coming from the stolen Chevrolet and began tracking it with the LoJack Police Tracking Computers (PTC) in their patrol vehicles.

The driver of the stolen truck had pulled in at the South Gate of the Unites States Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs and was detained by the Air Force Police. The suspect had no connection with the Air Force Academy and seemed to be disoriented. When the EPSO deputies arrived the suspect was determined to be intoxicated. He was taken into custody for DUI and Habitual Traffic Offender and transported for processing and jail.

The Air Force Police recovered the truck and notified the Guadalupe County SO and the owner of the recovery.

The LoJack® System was installed in the Chevrolet Silverado in March 2014 at Galles Chevrolet in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
