The owner of a 1996 Toyota Camry exited their car leaving the keys in the ignition, the motor running and the doors unlocked. When they returned to where the Toyota was parked they discovered it missing. The owner contacted the North Miami Police Department to report their vehicle stolen. The responding officer prepared a stolen vehicle report, theft affidavit and had the vehicle’s information entered into the state and federal crime information computers, which automatically activates the LoJack® System concealed in the 4-door sedan.

The next morning while on routine patrol, a North Miami PD officer picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen Toyota on their on-board LoJack Police Tracking Computer (PTC), that are installed in law enforcement patrol vehicles and aircraft. The officer began tracking the stolen Toyota by following the directional and audible cues on their PTC’s screen. The officer, along with their backup, located the Camry abandoned in the 1400 block of NE 151st Street. The Toyota was recovered, removed from state and federal crime information computer systems by the entering agency and towed to the police impound yard for safekeeping.

The LoJack® System was installed in the 1996 Toyota Camry in October 1995 at Toyota of South Florida in Doral.
