The owner of a 2017 Mercedes Benz GLE 350 parked their SUV at the mall. When they returned to where they had parked it, the discovered the Mercedes missing. The owner contacted the South Miami Police Department to report their Mercedes stolen. The responding officer prepared a stolen vehicle report, theft affidavit and had the vehicle’s information entered into the state and federal crime information computers which automatically activates the LoJack® System concealed in the sport utility vehicle. At this time it was discovered that the owner did not have their keys to the Mercedes and that they might have left them inside of the vehicle or lost them.

Immediately upon activation, while on routine patrol, a Miami-Dade Police Department officer picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen Mercedes Benz on their on-board LoJack Police Tracking Computer (PTC), that are installed in law enforcement patrol vehicles and aircraft. The officer began tracking the stolen Mercedes by following the directional and audible cues on their PTC’s screen. The officer, along with their backup, located the sport utility vehicle abandoned in the 3300 block of NW 30th Street. The SUV was recovered, removed from state and federal crime information computer systems by the entering agency and towed to the police impound yard for safekeeping.

The LoJack® System was installed in the 2017 Mercedes Benz GLE 350 in February 2017 at Mercedes-Benz of Coral Gables in Florida.
